Ederer Properties Seismic Upgrades

Reviewed the original building plans to determine the weak points in the building structure that would be susceptible to damage.
Date: December 31, 2019
Project Type: Seismic Retrofit
Client: Ederer Properties
Location: Seattle, WA

Project Details

Ederer Properties is a property in the Seattle area that was not built to withstand a seismic event. This less-than-adequate construction is all too common in older buildings. The property owners hired Pacific Engineering Technologies to perform our seismic retrofit service on the structure in an effort to make it safer and better able to withstand a future earthquake.

What We Did

We performed several site visits and reviewed the original building plans to determine the weak points in the building structure that would be susceptible to damage and/or collapse in the event of an earthquake. Based on our analysis, we designed steel frames and braces to strengthen the inadequate building components and assemblies. We also provided architectural services for the design of the interior and exterior of the building. During construction, we performed routine site visits to review the installation of the strengthening measures.

Project Results

The steel frames we developed for this structure provided critical structural support. This support added additional rigidity to a building that was in danger of suffering serious damage in a seismic event. The work Pacific Engineering Technologies performed will ensure the safe outdoor operation of this building for decades to come.
