Pay: From $60,000 to $90,000 per year
Schedule:  8 hour shift, 5 days a week

PACIFIC Engineering Technologies, Inc. is a structural engineering and architectural design firm located in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. We are seeking a motivated full-time designer to be a member of our team who wants to work on multiple unique and rewarding projects. This position is a long-term career opportunity for the right individual. Our primary areas of business include: investigation of damaged buildings, evaluation of defective construction, and design of repairs to damaged buildings using various construction materials. Our firm was established in 1960 and we have been providing structural engineering and architectural design services to clients with commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, pier, and historic projects for over 60 years.

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Travel to projects and perform site work to review existing buildings or buildings under construction to obtain field measurements including photographic documentation, and assess damage.  At times, you may need to access crawlspaces, attics and roofs, or use ladders, scaffolding, lifts and swing stages.
  • Prepare detailed construction documents for cost estimating, permitting, and construction.
  • Prepare presentations for clients and team members.
  • Prepare detailed reports written in easy-to-understand language.
  • Perform zoning, building and energy code research.
  • Review bid proposals, shop drawings and contractor submittals.
  • Track and manage multiple short- and long-term projects at one time.
  • Coordinate with in-house structural engineering team on renovations, repairs, rebuilds, additions and new construction.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, consultants, clients, contractors, etc.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical degree (Bachelor’s or higher) in architecture. 
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, SketchUp (or similar 3D modeling software) and Microsoft Suite.
  • Strong verbal, written and visual communication skills to articulate designs and clearly convey complex and technical information.
  • Foundational knowledge of building codes and accessibility standards. 
  • A team player who actively fosters cooperation and has the ability to build effective relationships with clients and coworkers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a keen ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve issues.
  • Ability to shift focus quickly and effectively between changing priorities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • A strong desire to learn and continuously develop professional skills.

We are a smaller firm that likes to call ourselves a family. Our owners are also full-time employees of the company who work side-by-side with architect, engineers, designers, EITs and drafters. We work on a variety of small-to-large size projects using a wide-range of building materials. We encourage a good work-life balance and offer related flexibility. Since we are looking for the right person, we are considering an architectural designer recently graduating from school, up to an architectural designer with multiple years of experience who is engaged in completing AXP or in the process of taking ARE exams.
