Office Building – Bellevue, WA
Crane Collapse Investigation
On November 16, 2006, a 210 foot tall construction crane collapsed in Bellevue, Washington. The crane impacted a multi-story office building, as well as two other buildings. We were contacted initially by the owner of the office building to assist his contractor in determining what areas, if any, of the building could be occupied during damage assessment and to provide recommendations to the contractor regarding temporary shoring. We prepared plans for the selective demolition of the damaged building components and prepared schematic design repair documents, which included building code enhancements, exterior envelope repair details, tenant layouts, and plan specifications. We also attended meetings with the City of Bellevue to determine repair procedures with respect to City building codes and ordinances. We also performed construction phase services for the owner during the course of repairs.
