Loma Prieta Earthquake 1989
On October 17, 1989, a large earthquake occurred in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. The quake was caused by a slip along the San Andreas Fault and measured 6.9 on the Richter Scale. The earth movement from the quake caused substantial damage and/or collapse of many of the old or poorly constructed buildings in the region. We sent a team of nearly a dozen engineers down to the area to evaluate buildings that were damaged by the earthquake. Our team remained in the area for 3 to 6 months.
